I grew up in a small town in the North Eastern part of India. Coming from an orthodox society where women need to get married by the age of 20, education for girls wasn’t of much importance. Since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the arts. My parents saw my drive and tried their best to educate me. They allowed me to pursue dance, musical theatre and painting. It made me want to diversify my talent. I left my hometown and moved to a bigger city in pursuit of finding my passion. This widened my perspective in many ways .
I decided to join the fashion and entertainment world to see if I would fit in. I wasn’t accepted with open arms at first because of my exotic features, ethnicity, skin color, accent and most importantly my height. I never gave up and have realized it is all about being an exception to the rule.
I feel lucky to be a part of the current change in the industry. Through my work and the wisdom I have gathered, I want to spread the idea you should accept yourself the way you truly are and be authentic. I want to inspire girls everywhere to break their shell and shatter the glass ceiling even if the route seems difficult and full of hurdles. And most importantly keep their head held high!
