Being a model, one of the things I’d want to change is the way we look at beauty. Growing up “plus size” and a woman of color, there was a lack of representation and there’s still plenty of work to be done. I’m very passionate about helping women believe that they’re worth way more than a number on a scale and their measurements. I can’t help but smile when I receive messages on my social media from women I’ve helped with building their confidence.
I hope my work influences women and our next generation of women; little girls who look at the media and can see themselves being represented. I want to teach them that they’re beautiful as is. I want them to know that true beauty comes from within; remaining kind to themselves and others. On my personal journey, I’ve learned that being kind to yourself is key. I’ve also learned to take care of myself. Being someone who’s tried nearly every diet in the book and has lost weight in the least healthiest ways, I’ve learned to listen to my body and what’s best for it.
I feel what makes me different from most people is the way I do things. With the work I do, I feel that I do it with passion and drive. Plus being Malaysian and Sri Lankan, I want to be able to represent my culture. Most importantly, I want to be a Role Model because I want to be able to inspire others to follow their dreams. I want them to know that they’re size or measurements don’t play a role in whatever it is they want to achieve.
