Professionally as a musician, I started my journey off as a drummer. In 2005 at age 15 I entered and won a national competition called UK Young Drummer of the Year. This was the catalyst that would drive me to work with the likes of Damon Albarn, Bobby Womack, Sampha and Robyn to name a few.
Subsequently I became a musical director and worked with fka Twigs and Jamie xx on their solo projects. Working closely in developing live stage shows for these artists was super inspiring and led me on a quest of self artistic liberation. During this time, I discovered afrofuturism and became obsessed with Sun Ra’s 'Space is The Place.' This tweaked my interest in astronomy, and more recently, sustainable space exploration. I think what SpaceX is doing with reusable rockets is phenomenal.
In the background, I’ve also had a keen passion for farming. My mum often reminds me of a story from when I was 8 years old and sold my first harvest of potatoes to a local supermarket for £100. 20 years on, I’ve moved to LA and finally have my own apartment that has a beautiful little balcony, the perfect vertical garden. This has reignited my love for growing and has sparked an interest in urban and sustainable agriculture. My grandmother always taught me to be self sufficient and I believe growing your own food is a good way to start that process.
As a Role Model artist, I would like to influence change in the way we see the world around us; from the ground we walk on, to the stars in outer space.
