“Going grey” is no longer unusual. I did not “go grey” for career purposes. I let it happen naturally long ago, and in recent years, convinced several other models to do the same. As a group, we have helped make the elegance of natural aging as socially acceptable for women as it has always been for men.  Perhaps more important, the fashion industry and advertisers have come to realize that today’s older people are vital, have purchasing power, and are a lucrative market for appropriate products and services including high fashion.

Of course, like many people, I have overcome adversity - but I never made an issue of it because adversity is part of being, and I am an advocate and practitioner of joyful living and healthful lifestyle.  Feeling ageless is the secret. I am involved as a peer with young people as one of the founders of The Fashion Committee of the National Arts Club as well as a member of its Admissions Committee, and also connect to our industry and young people who are entering it as a member of the Admissions Committee of the legendary Friars Club, and one of its four Goodwill Ambassadors.

The prequel, after growing up barefoot (most of the time) in fabled South Beach, Florida, and immersing myself in Spanish language and culture in Mexico, is a 20 year career as a high school foreign language teacher, during which I designed a curriculum for English as a Second Language and trained other teachers for its implementation (I hold two Master's degrees in Language and Education). To this day, I am thrilled to occasionally encounter now middle-aged former students who please me very much by recognizing and remembering me. Success as a model is the proverbial frosting on the cake.
