On September 24th Role Models participated in the 9th Annual First Ladies Luncheon hosted by Fashion 4 Development and our partners at Responsible Models Trust. The fashion show supporting sustainability and social change was put on by the immortal designs of Azzedine Alaia on behalf of the Azzedine Alaia Association, driving attention towards the UN Sustainable Development goals for the preservation of human rights and the environment. We had three models of our own (Brana, Robin and Ashley) proudly walking the show and the RTM founder and CEO Elizabeth Peyton-Jones held a fantastic speech addressing the current issues within the modeling industry.
“Forget the fairy-tale façade. Ignore the glamour. Open your eyes and ears. The modeling industry has a problem, a problem hiding in plain sight, a problem of exploitation: of physical, financial, sexual and emotional abuse on a grand scale.”
We’re proud to say we have signed the RTM pledge and are actively working for change within the industry. Models need to feel safe and be safe, in an environment where sexual harassment and other insecurities are not present. Check out our sister platform Role Models Educate to learn more about what we’re doing to address these goals.
