This week, Role Models’ own Carolina Fontaneti, Brana Dane and Renee Peters joined forces with Model Alliance to help create the “Respect Program” in response to sexual harassment and assault in the fashion industry. The call to action features an open letter with 100 models’ signatures and establishes a Code of Conduct, a fair process for addressing charges of abuse, and comprehensive training and education for all industry members.
Led by Model Alliance’s founder, Sara Ziff, The Respect Program is a enormous step forward in protecting models and others in the industry. Through the agreement, models will be able to access a confidential complaint process that protects them from any retaliation and ensures independent investigation and consequences for any offenders. As Ziff says, “respect goes beyond voluntary standards and mere promises to do better.”
News of the program stretched across the industry with articles appearing in Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and others. In the coming weeks, the Respect Program will be presented to major corporations in the fashion industry, media companies, and modeling agencies and all will be urged to sign on. The original letter and signatures can be seen here. If you’d like to donate and join the cause, the Respect Program would love your help!
We are so proud of our Role Models Carolina and Renee for standing up and bringing about changes that need to happen! 🙌 👏
